How To Recycle Your Car
If you have an old, junk car that is no longer running and just taking up space in your driveway or garage, recycling it is a great option
. There are used car parts in your vehicle that other people could use to repair their own.
Decide who youre going to sell your car to.
The first step to recycling your car is finding a junk yard that buys vehicles for used car parts (if you dont care to make a profit and just want your junk car gone, consider donating it to a charity car program). Not all junk yards will pay for old cars, but finding one that will pay will help you make a few dollars while making the working used parts available to others. Use the internet or phone book to search for auto wreckers, auto recyclers, and junk yards in your area and contact them to find out if they will take your car. Be prepared to tell them the make, model and year of the car, general condition and what is wrong with it. Be sure to get quotes from several options to ensure that you get a fair and reasonable amount of money for your car.
Prepare your car for the junk yard.
Once you have chosen a junk yard or auto recycler to take the used auto parts in your car, remove everything except the owner's manual, title (they dont want the hassle of dealing with a stolen car), and keys. You dont want to forget any personal items in the car when you turn it over because you may not get them back.
Drop the car off.
If your car is not drivable, ask the junk yard if they are willing to tow it to the yard for you. If not, arrange for towing yourself. When you arrive with the car, the employees will inspect it and give you a final quote based on the condition of the car and the parts the number of working parts that can be salvaged and re-sold. If you are not happy with their offer, dont hesitate to negotiate (this is expected). Once you agree on an amount, sign the title over, turn in the keys and youre done!
After you sell the car, the useable parts will be taken out and sold to consumers at prices far lower than new parts and you wont have to deal with it taking up space in your driveway or garage. The best part is that auto recycling is good for the environment.
