It is also better to go with the grain of the wood. Never go across the grain - this will give you a poor result.

2. After sanding the entire floor, choose the stain that you'd like for the finish. Be sure to remove all the dust. Begin the staining at the corner of the room and end at the door area. Why do you have to do that? It is simple logic. If you start by the door, how else can you go back out without stepping on the finish of your hardwood flooring?

3. As a top coat, you must add polyurethane to make it shine.
