How To Refinish Hardwood Flooring

Entering a home with hardwood flooring gives you a feeling of elegance

. This is true and a lot of people, especially those who are moneyed opt to have wooden floors over large tiles. It does give an extra attitude, right?

But before jumping on the wood and telling your architect which is which, you have to understand how to maintain this type of flooring. You need to know the proper way on how to refinish it and how to get it to shine in order for you to display the flooring at its best.

This is a real home job - emphasizing on the fact that working on this one is messy. But if your desired end result is for home beautification by having hardwood flooring in your home, then you're on the right track. Before doing anything, you must first take out all the things inside the room that will be installed with the wooden floors. If there is a thing or structure that cannot be moved, cover it well so that the dirt cannot penetrate.

All things clear, inspect the room. Are there nails sticking out? Are there thumbtacks? Are the carpet pins still in tact? You have to check the thoroughly because any sharp instrument can rip the sandpaper. The floor needs to be finished by sandpaper. This is a major step in installing hardwood flooring.

While this can be a Do It Yourself project for you and your family, it is much better to hire a machine floor sander to do the job for you. The sander is a specialist and can do the job properly. You can ask around town for a sander near you. If you have nothing to do for the day and have planned to do the sanding of the floor yourself, then here are some tips for you:

1. You have to buy a range of sandpaper smooth to rough. Different parts of the hardwood flooring require a certain type of sandpaper. Start at the roughest portion before going to the smoothest. It is also better to go with the grain of the wood. Never go across the grain - this will give you a poor result.

2. After sanding the entire floor, choose the stain that you'd like for the finish. Be sure to remove all the dust. Begin the staining at the corner of the room and end at the door area. Why do you have to do that? It is simple logic. If you start by the door, how else can you go back out without stepping on the finish of your hardwood flooring?

3. As a top coat, you must add polyurethane to make it shine.

Hiring a professional flooring contractor can save you time and money in the long run. Contact our expert team today to learn more about how we can make your hardwood floors look brand new again without the need to replace them.
