Without doing anything else but meditating, you can remove some of the stress from your body and mind by practicing just about 20-30 minutes per day. And best of all, you don't have to spend heavy money in the process either.
Many people go to stress thereapists and leave on the table thousands of dollars every year. Others go to expensive massage therapists, while others commit suicide simply because they can't deal with what life throws at them every day.
Meditation, on the other hand, is easy, can be done at home in a short time and it doesn't need any special talents or tools either. Regardless of the technique you employ, nowyou can help your mind and body in a way that not many other things can.
Meditation is about being calm for a period of time, of being mindful even. This means that in our calmness we become aware. Through meditation we become more aware of everything around us. We start to notice things that we were passing by without seeing before. And best of all, we become aware of our own thoughts. We see the negative thoughts for what they are and we can easily brush them off if they are non-convenient for our mindset. We can eliminate negative thoughts much easier because we notice them right at the moment they enter our mind. And we are now better equipped to change those negative thoughts and emotions with positive ones that can make us happier and less stressed out.
Basically meditation, be it abeginning japa meditation or through chantingbuddhist mantras,helps us choose the right mindset and feelings. We no longer walk dazed through life, keeping inside any emotions that passed through us. Now we see them and block them if we choose. Before we didn't have this choice because we were not aware of what was going on.
We can now truly relieve stress through regular meditation, and the good thing is, it takes a few minutes every day. In most cases meditation is all about sitting still for a while, doing simply...nothing. It might sound counterintuitive but it is actually the right way to fight stress.
Stress is all about being hyperactive and having to deal with too many things at the same time. Being quiet and calm for a little while allows us to see clearly and to sift through all that junk in our minds to get to the important things that need to be dealt with. We are thrown so many things at every day that we no longer know what is really important and what can be safely left out. Meditation practice helps throw away the chuff that can be ignored.

But for all these benefits to come true, we need to meditate on a regular basis. Doing it once a week or once a month will not be enough. Only regular practice will help fight stress, anxiety and various negative emotions.
