Step 1: Clean your leather jacket

First and foremost task is to clean your jacket. Remove any dust on the leather surface with cotton. And further treatment would be decided by the type of leather. Usually different leathers require different cleaning methodologies. The label of your leather jacket may guide you in right direction. Use any tonic on the jacket for enhanced cleaning, if the leather allows.

Step 2: Test the Dye

Next step is to test the dye. There is quiet a possibility that dye may malfunction so to be on safe side, it is better to test the dye on small unnoticeable area of your leather jacket. Apply the dye and then remove it with paper towel. This will help you in judging the finished look of dyed jacket.

Step 3: Work Area

You need a spacious and clean area for this work, so clean a large table or floor would do too and spread the newspaper on it. Be sure about the ventilation in the room. Now wear your gloves and start working but use gloves as dye may stain your hands.

Step 4: Start Dying

Rub the dye on leather skin using a new sponge or brush. Spread the dye evenly on the jacket and cover every little spot. Take care of buttons or any other accessory on the jacket. After applying dye properly, leave it to dry for hours and then wipe it with towel or newspaper for removing extra color. And if necessary, go for another coat to achieve your desired color.
