Crankshaft is an integral part of the engine. Replacing A Crankshaft requires a particular method which includes removing the old Crankshaft, installing the new one and then reassembling the parts. When you are replacing the Crankshaft, it is advisable to change the bearings too.
Procedure Of Replacing The Crankshaft
Engine block is set on an engine stand or is placed on a workbench.
The bearings should be checked carefully. One can mark the bearings with stamping die or color so that they can be recognized and reinstalled in their proper location.
The bolts of each bearing are to be rotated anti-clockwise. The bolts should be kept in an organized manner so that they can be replaced in their original place.
The next step is to remove the bearing caps from the block by tapping them. The main bearing should not be detached from the inside of the caps.
The Crankshaft is then removed off the engine block and it should be kept in an upright position.
The bearings are reassembled in their respective place and the bolts are tightened.
Installing The New Crankshaft
The Crankshaft is then taken to the machine shop to get them cleaned. One should make sure that the technicians check it properly and give the accurate bearings size. One should remember to keep the
Crankshaft.

New bearings are fixed on the engine block with the small bearings tab seating appropriately on the recess provided on the block saddle. Ensure that tiny oil hole in the bearings is parallel with the oil hole of corresponding saddle.
The new bearings and the Crankshaft journals (where the bearings rest) are coated with a layer of grease.
Crankshaft is cautiously placed on the engine block.
The remaining half of the new bearings is fixed on the main bearing caps. The bearing tabs are lined up with the recess provided on the cap saddle and the bearings are covered with moly based grease.
The bearing caps are fixed in their original location on the engine block. One should ensure that the cap arrows point to the front of the engine.
The bearing caps are fixed by tightening the bolts using short socket. The bolts are rotated using a torque wrench.
The Crankshaft ends are knocked from the front and the back several times with a hammer and the main bearing caps are tightened again with short socket.
The Crankshaft pulley bolt is fixed at the front of the Crankshaft and the Crankshaft is twisted a number of times to see whether it is properly fixed or not.
One just needs to get the engine out of the vehicle and remove the others parts of the engine block and one is ready to replace the Crankshaft. Following this procedure correctly can be very helpful while replacing a Crankshaft and will ensure that it is done properly.
