How To Replace The Watch Battery In An Acer Laptop
The CMOS (Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) battery in your Acer laptop is
often referred to as a watch battery because it is a small circular battery that resembles the kind you would find in a wristwatch. This CMOS battery provides power to various smaller functions in your Acer laptop, like the date and time settings. So if your Acer laptop date and time settings keep resetting every time you turn on your computer, chances are you need to replace the CMOS battery.
Turn off your Acer laptop and remove the power cable from the side of the computer. Then slide the battery from its compartment on the underside of the computer.
Close your laptop screen, turn it around so the back screen hinges are facing you and use your Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the two screws located on either side of the back of the computer that hold the plastic keyboard frame in place.
Open the computer screen and locate the rectangular plastic frame just above the keyboard. Use your fingers to gently pry it up from the side and remove it. Some Acer models have two hinges on either side of the frame that need to be pulled out before the frame can be removed.
Lift the keyboard up by the top and place it face down over the bottom half of the computer. Some Acer models have two screws just above the keyboard that need to be removed before you can lift it up. Now the computer's motherboard and metal frame will be visible underneath where the keyboard used to sit.
Locate the metal plate in the center of the computer and use your screwdriver to remove the two screws at the bottom of it. Then lift up the plate to expose the CMOS battery connected to the green motherboard.
Use the tip of your screwdriver to gently pop the CMOS battery out of its compartment. Verify that the five-digit alphanumeric product number written on the old battery matches that of your replacement Acer laptop battery (available from your Acer retailer or online).
Fit the new CMOS battery in the compartment and reassemble you Acer laptop in the reverse order you took it apart.
