How To Save Your Marriage - Advice For Every Couple

"How To Save My Marriage " - Those words, they're like a bell being sounded that signals the end of your relationship. Fear not, we can all fall into negative states of mind when things aren't going well.

It's happened to me, and I panicked. And then I started getting stressed out. Neither of those things helped. Or will ever help. In any situation.

In my day job, I often have to deal with situations where people are running about like headless chickens, and I've gotta be the calm one. I wondered why I wasn't applying these same principles of serenity and calm effective action in my personal life. And then I realised. I had too much to lose.

Getting married was a big step for me and now that everything wasn't 100% hunky-dory I felt like my world was falling apart. I decided to be scientific about it, just like I did at work.

I figured out why we were bickering over such small things, why we would have arguments that started off minor and spiralled into huge fights and why we were frequently at each other's throats over things that when we first met would have been laughed off.

It was easy really. I re-directed my fear of losing my wife. I really thought about how to save my marriage and came up with the answer.

Every day, I would remember why it was that I loved my wife so much. I would pick up on something new, no matter how small, that I loved, and most importantly, I re-discovered my tolerance.

My wife's 17 years younger than me, and a whole lot more good looking, so when we first met I had to step-up my game. Once we were married, I must have instinctively thought, 'I've got her now, no need to impress any more'. Boy, that was a mistake.

By making sure I was nearly always ready to impress, by doing the small things she loves, our marriage went from strength to strength. I no longer became irritated when she wanted to watch Lost, or spent waay too much money on a pair of shoes. Incredibly, probably without knowing it, she started doing the same sort of thing.

Now I get to watch as much ice hockey as I want and all I have to do is pretend that spending more than 200 bucks on a pair of shoes is ok.
