Yes, I know we are in India where the traditional paradigm is to offer sweets as gifts but think of this for a second

. Do you really want to be overfed with the calorie laden barfis and ghee oozing ladoos? Also, think of the extra kilos you invariably end up adding to yourself and I know that the answer to this is a secretive NO. I mean I love sweets myself and gorge on to them whenever there is an occasion or a festival around, but I sure know that the very sight of them after it gets over is nauseates me no end.

I will suggest an alternative, which might sound clichd but it works like a charm for me: flowers. They are enigmatic, spread fragrance, bring unbridled joy, stay longer (way longer than sweets, anyday) and do not spread a panic attack, like sweetmeats, after the festive season. Also, they attribute a lot of meaning to our occasions if thorough planning and thought is ascribed to the bouquets.
