How To Select Charm Bracelets
There are many considerations when selecting charm bracelets and these include size
, style, clasp design, metal and even the size of charms that you wish to wear. Since charm bracelets are a lifelong piece of jewelry it is important to consider all these aspects when making a decision.
Charm bracelets come in a wide range of sizes or lengths. In general most standard bracelets will be either seven or eight inches in length, however half sizes are also possible. Many of the manufacturers make a 7.5 inch and 8.5 inch bracelets as their standard size. Additional links can be added for those with larger arms, and links can be removed for those with very petite arms.
Curb links, cable chains, round links and even the alternating Figaro types of charm bracelets can be found in a variety of widths and sizes. Heart shaped links are very romantic and popular and tend to be found on the slightly finer types of chains and charm bracelet designs. All chain styles can be found in both gold charm bracelets as well as silver.
Each of these types of chains can be heavy and thick through each link or they can be very delicate and light in appearance. There is also the option to have double or even triple links within charm bracelets, providing a more three dimensional rather then flat bracelet. Charm bracelets can also have the strands of links of different metals with silver and gold charm bracelets very popular.
Controlling for or matching the size and weight of the charms to the type of charm bracelets considered is important to keep the set looking balanced. While both silver and gold charm bracelets and charms are found in any weight and size, sticking with a moderate type of bracelet offers the greatest option for adding charms.
The clasp of the bracelet is also a very important consideration. By far the most common types of clasps used on charm bracelets are lobster clasps or spring ring clasps. Both of these open with a small level mounted to the side of the clasp, allowing the other end of the chain to be caught in the clasp.
Another popular option for a clasp is a toggle clasp. These look very elegant on bracelets and actually form part of the design, not intended to be almost invisible as the above mentioned clasps are. Toggle clasps feature a shape at one end of the chain, often round or heart shaped, and a longer narrow bar at the other. The bar is inserted through the opposed end of the chain to secure the charm bracelet. These types of clasps are found on both gold and silver charm bracelets.
Charm bracelets can be ideal for both younger girls and women of any age. They make wonderful gifts that will continue to be added to many years. Choosing the right charm bracelets is simple if you just stop to consider what you are looking for and the types of charms you wish to add in the future.
