The original (and authentic) Stormtrooper is supposed to look grim and scary while the novelty versions of these costumes are supposed to cause people to chuckle and it depends on what reaction you most want to get from others.

A stormtrooper costume can be a fun way to participate in the ongoing Star Wars phenomenon. Most people have seen at least one of the movies, so others won't have any trouble identifying who you have dressed up as. At the same time, people won't be able to see your face if you're wearing a Stormtrooper helmet, so you should take it off every once in a while when you want to actually have conversations with people.
