How To Solve Problems With Used Lexus And Toyota Accelerator Problems

Toyota have been forced to recall a number of their cars after the recent problems

with the accelerator pedal sticking on a number of used Lexus and Toyota cars that has caused the death of four people, including one police officer.

Following this there has been a release from the ABC network describing what to do in the event of your accelerate pedal sticking. Some of the things mentioned in the video might seem quite obvious to most drivers but there may be some interesting or new information that you were not previously aware of that could save your life at some point in the future so read on.

Even though the problem at present has been limited to used Lexus and Toyota models, this issue could in effect happen on any car. One thing that you should avoid doing is pumping the brakes, doing this will likely cause a power brake failure on the cars in question and cause the car to continue to accelerate.

Another recommendation made by the ABC network is about turning the engine off. Initially they do not recommend that you turn the engine off on used Lexus or Toyota models, if you turn the key too far then you could end up engaging the steering lock and limiting your ability to steer away from potential hazards.

So, what does the ABC's network of specialist recommend? If you car is speeding out of control the first thing you want to do is stop the forward motion of the motor vehicle.

To do this you will need to remove the car from gear and place it into neutral.

Admittedly this is probably a gear that people tend not to use on their used Lexus' or Toyota's. When pulling up at lights the car probably goes into park before being placed back into drive when pulling away. It is probably worth familiarising yourself with where and how your neutral setting works on your used Lexus or Toyota and checking the car's manual so you are completely familiarised with your motor vehicle, it could save your life.

Once you have knocked your car out of drive and into neutral the next thing that you need to do is brake strongly but safely making sure that you come to a safe stop out of harm's way. At this point the end will still be revving at its maximum, don't panic about this, don't get flustered, just continue to stop the car. Once fully stopped and safe to do so, turn the engine off, remove yourself from the car and call a local pickup service to collect your car.

This information could save your life, so please don't take it lightly and if you do find yourself in the above mentioned situation, remain calm and follow the procedure.
