How To Start Your Shell Collection

To many people, the beach is a refuge

To many people, the beach is a refuge. No matter how difficult our daily routines are, a quick trip to the beach can ease our stress away. But aside from sun tanning, surfing, and swimming, you can also make a shell collection from your beach trips. You can collect rare shells even if you do not jump into the water. In some beaches, different kinds of shells are scattered all over the shore. Here are some tips to help you start your own shell collection.

1.Before you start, the very first thing that you need to do is to decide on what shells you want to collect. What is your purpose? Is it simply for a pastime? Or, do you want to make money from it? Whatever your goal is, it is very important that you store your shells in a safe location. Exposure to the sun and dust may damage your collection and even lessen the color of your seashells.

2.Use plastic containers for your collection. There are readily-made shell containers online but you can also use screw-top and stackable boxes for the smaller ones.

3.If you are serious with your shell collection, buy a wooden cabinet. One that has a lot of drawers would be ideal. Make dividers for every drawer by using pieces of wood or section dividers.

4.Keep a mesh bag handy. Mesh bags with draw strings will hold your shells as you collect them by the beach. Strainers can help you scoop the shells out of the sand easily. These items may be found in any craft supply store.

5.Label your shells by using heavy card stock. Some collectors do want to write anything on the shells but there are others who want to put labels. Use the card stock when writing the name of the shell.

Make it a point to clean your shells on a regular basis. Proper storage will also keep the shells in good condition. As mentioned, frequent exposure to dust will cause fading.

If a beach trip seems quite impossible to fit into your schedule, don"t worry! Beachtown, a new online game on Facebook, gives you the chance to recreate a virtual world of the beach.
