How To Stay On Task With Good Time Management
Everybody has "those days" when you feel unproductive
. Sometimes we feel as if we are running around chasing our tails getting nothing done. Time management is typically the cause for these days. You do not have to be stuck in this loop. Everyone has the ability to develop good time management skills and habit. All you need to do is retrain your brain to work smarter to change this behavior. You should be aware of the different methods of managing your time. No two people are the same which is also true for time management method effectiveness. The following tips might help get you started.
Before you go off half cocked, try figuring out what you might be doing now. In the first couple of days you won't want to change anything. Begin you next few days by jotting down what your tasks are and how long each one takes to complete. If you take 45 minutes to collect your thoughts write that down too. Do this for a weeks tasks. This can help you see where you are beginning your day and how best to recollect wasted time. From this point you can begin to figure out what needs to change and how to begin those changes.
Make out a blueprint for your day, week, month. Take time out of your day for scheduled breaks, returning emails and weekly conference calls. The more structured your schedule is the better you will be at getting into good time management habits. Training yourself to be productive during specific times of the day is easier this way. It will take some commitment to time management. It may take a month but you will find that you are committed to this new way of thinking so much that it seems natural.
It is important not to forget to plan for breaks and relaxation times. It will be easy to become burnt out fast if you try going full throttle all day without breaks. Keep your brain and body well rejuvenated with a little chunk of time to unwind and relax each day even if only for a few moments. So make time for break time in your busy schedule at least a few times each day. You need it, your mind needs it, this is definitely your time. Your emotional health depends on these breaks. It is important that you stick to your guns on this one and don't let anyone tell you anything different.
Figuring out good time management skills can be hard to do at first. Your schedule will help you stay on task and focused on the days agenda. You never know you might just be as focused as the person you've always admired for having great time management skills. It is always a good idea to have some goals. Remember to stay focused and not go overboard. There is something to be said for spontaneity, don't over manage your life leave some time for fun. It's important to have a good balance of relaxation time in your life too.
