How To Stop Excessive Sweating Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is the name for the condition known as excessive sweating. There are many options available of how to stop excessive sweating including Botox, prescription deodorants, oral medications, Iontophoresis and surgery.

A prescription deodorant, Dry Sol is often prescribed by medical professionals to control sweating in the armpits. The prescription version contains more aluminum chloride than regular deodorants. Patients who use this product must apply it at bedtime for a period of 7 to 10 days.

Iontophoresis is a water treatment that sends electric currents to the skin to combat sweat production. Special devices are prescribed by your doctor that are covered by insurance companies. The treatments are given two or three times a week and usually last 10-20 minutes. If this treatment works for the patient, they must perform maintenance sessions every 1 to 3 weeks.

Robinul is an anticholinergic medication used to prevent Hyperhidrosis. It has been known to prevent all sweating and is not recommended for people who work outside or are professional athletes.

We all know that Botox is used to reduce wrinkles. Recently Botox was approved by the FDA to be used in treating excessive underarm sweating. Fifty units are injected into the armpits and lasts for six months. It is covered by insurance carriers for treatment of the underarms. Hyperhidrosis on the feet and hands has not been approved by the FDA because there have been cases where temporary muscle weakness occurred causing patients discomfort and unable to perform certain tasks.

An outpatient procedure called Sympathectomy is an effective treatment of this condition. It was a risky surgery at one time but advanced technology has enabled doctors to insert a small camera and tiny cutting instrument into the body to sever part of the nerve supply to sweat glands.
