Here are 5 simple solutions to help you stop talking in your sleep:
1. De-stress yourself
This is often easier said than done. But sleep talking is often a sign that we're suffering more stress in our lives than usual. Taking time out regularly to relax is one way that you can reduce the effects of stress in your life. Even a walk in the park or a power nap may help to cut down your stress levels. Or you may need something more "powerful" such as yoga or meditation. Experiment to see what helps you unwind best.
2. See your doctor
Quite often, sleep talking is the manifestation of some other sleeping disorder. It may just be the outward sign of something more serious. It's worth making an appointment with your doctor - even if you think it's too trivial - so that they can run a few tests and check that your sleep talking isn't something more serious in disguise.
3. Cut down on alcohol and caffeine
Yup. The usual culprits for sleep disruption. Don't do anything daft like having a strong espresso a few minutes before you go to sleep - go for a glass of hot milk or a decaffeinated tea if your routine calls for a hot drink before retiring for the night. A little bit of alcohol is normally OK but too much will definitely disrupt your sleeping pattern which in turn could lead to you sleep talking.
4. Temporarily use a sleeping pill
It's entirely possible that your sleep talking is caused by not sleeping deeply enough. If you're a shallow sleeper then taking a sleeping pill may be all you need to get out of the habit of sleep talking. But as with all other non-natural solutions, don't rely on this for long. Just long enough to work on the deeper causes of your sleep talking problem.
