If you are like me and have found your computer freezing, then don't do as I did and leave it. Take it as a warning sign and do something about it!!

My computer started to run slow and freeze occasionally, but I thought it was because I was running Windows XP and the machine was no longer young. Next thing I knew, my computer had crashed.

Fortunately, I had just backed up all my work onto memory stick, so it wasn't fatal but it was a close run thing. I had to spend good money getting everything reloaded and trying to remember passwords, 6 months down the line is not easy.

What I should have done was to buy a registry cleaner (and used it) to prevent the crash. Not only would have been quicker, it would have been cheaper too!

"What is a registry and why does it need cleaning"? I hear you ask. The registry is part of the computer that records all the things you do on it like installing and uninstalling programmes.

Unfortunately, the registry gets left with bits of information all over the place and when you try to do something on the computer, the registry has to work out what you did last and go from there.

Eventually, the registry can't sort out the correct bits of information to do the action you want so it freezes and starts sending you error messages, and then eventually crashes if these are ignored.

A registry cleaner or registry repairer, is a piece of software that goes through the registry, mopping up odd pieces of disjointed software so that the computer runs quicker as it doesn't have to try so hard.

Used regularly, your old computer can run problem free for years so saving you the expense of lost information and photos, a large repair bill or a new computer.
