How To Store A Canon Np-e3 Battery For The Winter?
With the cold weather approaching, many people will not be using their boat
, RV, or motorcycle for several months. It is essential to know how to store a battery so that you can re use it again with no problems. If done properly, storing a np-e3 battery for the winter will prevent the battery from dying and not be able to hold a charge. Just follow these easy steps and next spring you will not be disappointed when you attempt to start your "fun machine" back up.
1 Remove the battery that you want to store for the winter from your car, rv, boat, or other item. You can do this by disconnecting the wires from the terminals.
2 Clean the outside of the np-e3 battery with a mild soap.
3 Clean the battery terminals with the wire brush and apply the anti-corrosive agent to the battery terminals
4 Fill any missing water from the battery cells by replacing it with distilled water. Tap water can be used but distilled water will guarantee the longest possible battery life.
5 Store the np-e3 battery in a cool dry place. If you are going to leave it on the concrete you must put a piece of wood underneath it. Failing to do so will result in the battery discharging and decreasing its overall life.
6 Connect the trickle charge to your battery. Trickle chargers can vary in their functions so make sure to read your owner's manual. You want the battery to charge at 2 amps for 2-3 days at a time. Some trickle chargers will charge the battery periodically and shut off when needed automatically, some do not. If your charger does not cycle on/off automatically, after 2-3 days unplug it for about 4 weeks before charging the battery for another 2-3 days.
7 Repeat the charging and not charging process described in step 6 until you are ready to use the np-e3 camera battery.
