The biggest obstacle is the temptation to procrastinate. Most of the time we put off writing because we just don't know how to start, or we feel like we've covered every aspect of our niche that we possibly can.
I would like to encourage you that you can write on your topic over the long haul. Even when you feel like your creativity is all dried up, it can come back to life. Here are 5 article marketing strategies for finding article topics when you have no idea what to write about.
1 - Make the task you're dreading your priority.
This productivity technique is extremely effective. Think about it--the reason we procrastinate is that we have something on our to-do list that we just don't want to do. We avoid it for as long as we can, and that creates all sorts of problems for us. One way to nip the temptation to procrastinate in the bud is to tackle that dreaded task head on. In the case of writing articles, you would work on your writing first thing in the morning.
You're at your freshest early in the morning anyway, so that will help your creativity. You can also get one of your biggest tasks out of the way early, and then the rest of your day will be easy by comparison.
Tackling the hardest task first is a great way to renew your energy and give yourself a boost of confidence! Knowing that you have
taken care of something that was a challenge to you makes you feel good and it proves to yourself that you are capable of handling challenges.
2 - Map out the first step you'll take.
Most of the time people procrastinate because the task they're faced with looks overwhelming. They just don't know how to begin, so they avoid the task.
One very practical way to handle this is to plan out what your first step will be. Your first step in writing is determining a topic for your article. Plan this out the day before your writing session so that when you sit down at your desk you can just write.
3 - Revisit your library of articles.
If you've been writing articles for a while, you can feel like your creativity has run dry. Did you know that you can actually use your previous articles to generate more article ideas? Look at your library of articles--Are there any topics that you can re-use, writing about them in a different way, giving different tips with the new information you've learned since the first time your wrote about them?
4 - Go to a different environment.
Sometimes your mind can get in a slump doing the same old thing in the same old place every day. If you are feeling uninspired, try taking your writing "on location". Go to the library, the park, or the cafe. Take your laptop and write from some place you're not used to. Or, try writing with a pen and paper rather than a laptop for a change.
5 - Try to bounce articles off of each other.
Instead of just writing one article, try to cover a topic in two articles. This allows you to cover your topic more in depth, give more examples, and just plain explain it more thoroughly. It's also very economical as far as brain power goes. Really, as long as you're thinking about a certain topic, you might as well get as much out of it as you can. Writing about one topic in depth and spreading that information over two articles takes a lot less energy than coming up with an entirely new topic for the second article.
