How To Submit Your Website To The Open Directory Project

Getting your website listed in the Dmoz open directory is not an easy task

. In order to get listed in the directory, you will have to follow the Dmoz guidelines.

Before submitting your website, you should use the search box to make sure it is not submitted. It is not recommended to submit twice to the Dmoz directory as this is considered spamming.

If your website is not submitted yet, you may submit it to the appropriate category. The Dmoz directory has a large array of categories to choose from. Your site should be submitted to a single most relevant category. Site that are submitted to an irrelevant category are subject to a high possibility of being rejected and removed by the dmox editors. For example, if your website is about chocolate cake recipes, you should suggest it to Home > Cooking > Chocolate > Cakes. In some categories, the suggest URL link is not available. These categories do not accept submission so you should find other categories which are more specific to your website.

Once you have selected a category, you can click on the Suggest URL link located on top of the page. You should read and follow the guidelines on the submission form carefully. The site description should be concise and accurately describe the entire sites content. If you submit a promotional description, it will significantly delay your site from being approved. In some cases, the editor will reject your site submission. In addition, you should not use automatic software to submit your site as it can ban you from the Dmoz site.

After you have submitted your site, the ODP editor will review your submission to determine whether it should included in the directory. The approval of the site submission depends on a number of factors. If there is a large submission volume, it may take a long time before the editor will review your submission. If you did not get any response after three months, you may resubmit the URL to the open directory.
