Be Consistent

Pretend to be a Puppy

Recognizing how a puppy behaves with its siblings makes training simpler. It helps to praise and give the puppy treats to distract it from biting. If one of its litter mates yelps, it stops. Keep It Short

The training session with the puppy should be brief as it has a short attention span. The training must have a positive note and talking in a happy tone helps as well. Pet and praise the puppy when it pays attention to what is being said.

Provide Toys to Play With

During training the puppy not to bite, provide it with lots of toys to sink its teeth into or chew on. Yelp when it bites the hand and be consistent in this reaction. The puppy will back off.

Old Shoes and Clothes are not Toys

The puppy gets confused very easily and cannot distinguish between new and old, so avoid giving old shoes or clothes as toys to have fun with. Otherwise it will think that it is acceptable to nibble on all clothing and shoes.

Stick to the Routine

Everybody must stick to the training routine. Children must not let the puppy nip or bite in play as this will confuse the puppy. Teach children to yelp and stop playing too. As a rule, the puppy is offered treats only for good behavior.
