How To Train Your Triceps
If you are here trying to figure out how to get those triceps, working hard so that you may start to see some good gains in your arm size, then you are at the right place. The triceps are a muscle group that have always been second place to the biceps when guys first begin to workout. This is counter-productive seeing as the triceps makes up most of the size in the arm. The triceps, when worked properly, takes up two thirds of the arm size, so working out your triceps regularly could be the solution to gaining those arms that you have always wanted. I am going to explain how to use the triceps extension machine. Of course there are a lot of other things that you can do for triceps, but for now we will focus on the most common one.
The trick to working out the triceps is to understand exactly what movements the triceps are responsible for. The triceps allow you to extend the arm outwards, pivoting at the elbow. If you were to stand up with your arms down the triceps only control the movement of the forearm, in other words, from the elbows and down excluding the fingers for those technically conscious readers out there. When you are trying to work out your triceps one of the most important things to keep in mind is that you shouldn't be moving your elbows. Any movement from the elbow means that it's the shoulder that is working and potentially your abs.
Now quick question. If you have a cold, do you take a spoonful of medicine or do you take the whole bottle? When you are eating breakfast, do you make a couple eggs or do you eat the whole carton? When you only have 150 mins on your cell phone do you use all the minutes on one call? Now when you are in the gym do you try to load up as much weight as you can lift or do you use the proper amount to allow yourself to work the muscle? A common mistake guys make when working out the triceps is that you see people are trying to stand over the weight and use their bodyweight to push the weights down. I was guilty of this as well, because I believed I was lifting so much more weight, now that half of my body weight was on it (made me feel like I was jacked). That was then, this is now, I know better.
When you are ready to stop just feeling like your jacked and actually start getting jack, take note that the triceps should be tucked away tightly by your sides. You shouldn't have to do anything special to bring the weight down to work the triceps (going on your toes trying to lift more weight down, leaning forward on the weights, buckling your shoulders forward to put more weight over the weight so you can push it down all useless). On every lift you should be able to put the pulley back at the resting position and then do another lift. If you are doing anything but just walking up to the machine and using your triceps to pull the weight down you are wasting your time. The next issue after the extension is when you are relaxing the muscle and letting the machine slide back up. How far up should you let it go? Simple, as far as you can without letting your elbows move.
An important piece of knowledge to know when working out is that your not trying to lift the most you can lift. It's the maximum that you can lift while keeping good form. Good form is always compromised when you start to lift heavier it's a fact and there is no way around it. This is because your body tries to compensate for the extra weight. You should always be able to add more weights to your regular workout weight and be able to lift it, but you'll lose proper form. If you find yourself lifting the maximum weight you can lift and you cannot go any heavier because you are unable to lift it period, that means your form is off and you need to lower the weight. Good form isn't to let you lift the most it's to allow the most precision to hit a specific muscle or a specific group of muscles safely.
That is how you need to start working out your triceps when you are doing tricep extensions. This will not only help you start gaining some size but also gain size at a faster pace. This will not only help you with your triceps but also should be incorporated into all of your workouts to see some serious gains. Keep lifting and be patient.
