How To Travel From Delhi To Agra

National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi is the second most populous Indian city with around 1.67 crores of permanent residents

. NCT has its own legislative assembly and New Delhi, the National capital, a part of NCT, is jointly administered by NCT and Central Government. The three most important seats of power of the country, namely the Indian Parliament, the Rashtrapati Bhavan and the Indian Supreme Court are located here. Other tourist attractions include India Gate, Qutub Minar, Akshar Dham, Red Fort and Jantar Mantar. Delhi owns a well maintained Metro Rail system.

Agra lies on the banks of the river Yamuna in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Population of Agra is 17,75,734 as per 2011 census. Agra is famous for the Taj Mahal which is one of the seven wonders of the modern world. Agra is an important tourist destination with heritage sites like Agra Fort and Ram Bagh among others.

Delhi is well connected to Agra by road. Five National Highways NH2, 4,8,17 and 222 connect Delhi with other cities. For travelling by road from Delhi to Agra NH2 and Delhi-Noida Expressway can be used. If one is using NH2, the distance of 205 km can be covered in 3 hours 30 minutes. From Delhi use Mahatma Gandhi Road (6.1 km) to catch Noida Toll Bridge and take Eastern Avenue Road (3 km) to be on NH2 (180 km) and finally Sheetla road (1.5 km) to be in Agra.

One can hire taxi cabs to travel from Delhi to Agra. One way fare will be Rs 1744/- for an a/c car and Rs3990/- for a round trip approximately. Many tour operators are having one day conducted tours from Delhi to Agra; the fare depends on the amenities. UP state transport buses are being operated from Delhi to Agra, the per head fare being Rs 950/- for Multi-Axle Volvo buses and Rs 500/- for a/c seater. Private buses ply from Delhi to Agra with fares varying from Rs 230/- for non-a/c and Rs 490/- for Volvo buses.


There are three railway stations in Delhi catering to long distance trains namely, Delhi junction, New Delhi station and Nizzamuddin station. Agra has Agra Cantonment and Agra Fort stations. Eighty five express and superfast trains run between Delhi and Agra. Most of these trains pass through Cantonment station. Few trains touch Tundla station which is 25 km away. The fastest train 12002 New Delhi Bhopal Shatabdi Express takes 2 hours 6 minutes to cover the distance of 188 km from Delhi to Agra Cantonment.

Agra has an airport at Kheria which is an Indian Air Force base. Commercial flights are not available on regular basis.
