How To Use A Power Router
A power router tool is an effective and useful tool for any amateur woodworker's set or toolkit
. They are most often used to create decorate trims for various wood pieces. They also work very well when hollowing out a large area of wood to create the trim. A router power tool is a very accurate precision tool that can cut various shapes into most types of wood. There are also a variety of attachments or "bits" available for the tool allowing you to work with projects of almost any size or scope.
There are two basic types of bits, larger edge bits and more detailed bits referred to as normal. The edge bits are typically used along the sides and outer edges of a piece of wood and they typically have wheels on the bottom to help you maintain control during cutting. Normal bits, typically used for hollowing out large pieces of wood are more exact.
If you have limited experience with a power router tool, here are some tips you should know. No matter if you are a woodworking hobbyist or a professional, if your ultimate goal is to get a finely detailed finished product, please follow these tips and tricks to assure your project is up to your standards.
When you begin routing, always remember to cut as little wood at a time as possible. This is very important. Making a large cut as soon as you begin may wear the bits out immediately and eventually ruin your plans for the entire project. Be patient and very careful while cutting the small sections of wood when making the trim. This will save time in the long run. I will also save money because you will complete the project by using fewer materials.
Another important tip to remember is to always route with the wood's grain to avoid any ripping or tearing. If you suddenly start to route against the grain it could cause the wood to splinter. It may also cause the tip to dig too deeply into the wood causing unsightly and unwanted grooves. Routers usually rotate clockwise. This is important to remember when attempting to continually go along with the grain while cutting the wood.
In addition to the many usage tips for the router power tool, remember that there are some safety tips that are also important. The power router is a power tool after all, so it is recommended that you wear protective goggles for your eyes as well as earplugs for hearing safety.
Remember, routing takes a large amount of practice and patience to become great. Use these tips in order to reach your objectives and someday become a master of the woodworking craft.
