Shape - the shape of a piece of jewellery is really important. A round piece of jewellery, perhaps a pendant will draw your attention to the exact place where it hangs, where as a long piece of jewellery perhaps a string of beads will draw the eye downwards.

Size - this is an important aspect of choosing the right jewellery. It is all about proportions and clever choice of jewellery can help you to play with proportions. For example a chunky ring will tend to make your fingers look smaller and more delicate. If you have very delicate features smaller more delicate pieces of jewellery work better to highlight rather than swamp your natural features.

Colour - when choosing the colour of jewelry, you should think about the colour of your outfit (obviously) but also your skin tone, eye colour and hair colour. For pieces of jewellery near your face, you may also want to consider make up colours perhaps matching or contrasting earrings to the colour of your eye shadow. For jewellery on or near your hands, you can also consider the colour of your nail varnish. If your skin tone or eye colour is one of your best features then picking out just the right colour of fashion jewellery and wearing it near your skin or eyes is a great idea.

Texture - sparkly and glossy textures are a great way to highlight your best features. As with the size of jewellery, you can have too much of a good thing particularly if you have delicate features. For some people matt and rougher textures are a good but more subtle way of catching people's attention. Think about balancing texture, size and color and so perhaps a small necklace in a bright color or with lots or shine and sparkle.

Position - when choosing the position of a piece of jewellery, you can either high light a particular part of the body, perhaps the ear lobes with stud earrings or draw the eyes towards an area of the body, perhaps the collar bone with long earrings or the waist with a long necklace.
