However if one has a Mac formatted iPod, then transferring to Windows would require that the iPod be re-formatted. When an iPod gets re-formatted one needs to re-load all the songs back onto it. If a backup of the iPod is available one needs only to restore/reload it.. In case there is no backup or it is not available/accessible, one could use an iPod recovery software and safely recover iPod data.
