How To Wear Clip In Hair Extensions

There are a lot of different methods used to apply extensions

, these vary depending on what type of hair you want to use and where you want to have it done. Perhaps the easiest option is using clip in hair extensions. You can get human hair or synthetic clip in hair extensions that are simple to apply and can be done by yourself at home. Most are so simple that all you have to do is take a section of your own hair and clip in the extension near to your scalp. These are a popular choice for short term wear because you can remove them at the end of the day and re-attach them again whenever you want them.

Before fitting the clip in hair extensions, straighten your own hair. This will effect a more natural integration and blending of your own hair with the extensions. A good tip prior to commencing of the fitting is to practice opening and closing the extension clips. Use both thumbs, and index fingers, to apply firm pressure to the clip ends. Leave each one in its open state, in preparation for fitting.

When you are confident about the opening and closing of the clip you are now ready to begin, always insert the extensions from the bottom of the head and work up. Your clip in hair extensions usually contains 9 different width wefts of hair (3 long wefts and 6 short wefts). Use the longer lengths for the back of the head and the shorter lengths at the side.

How to fit your clip in hair extensions:-

Starting at the lower back section of your head, use a tail comb to divide your hair horizontally, at the lower back of the head i.e. just below one ear to the second ear.

Clip your remaining hair, firmly on the top of your head, to keep it out of the way as you fit the wefts.

Next take one of the wider hair wefts and insert the opened centre clip just below the parting. Insert the snap clip on your hair not on the raw scalp. Snap the clip shut, so it grips your hair. Repeat with the remaining clips. The clip-in weft hair extension should be fully stretched out with the hair weft as parallel as possible to the parting you made. Check for lumps and gaps and if you can feel bad positioning of the hair weft then undo the offending clips and reposition them until the weft feels correct and is as flat as practical to the scalp.

Release the hair you held out of the way and create a new parting. Then comb down a layer of hair, with about half an inch or so between each weft layer. Each time secure the surplus hair, on top of your head.

Now insert the remaining wefts in the same manner as above. Repeat the process with a new parting above each weft extension.

Insert and position the side pieces so they frame the face and blend with your own hair.

Ensure your own hair is combed over the weft and the clips so that the hair looks natural. Use a mirror to make sure no visible weft is showing. You can now use a hair straightener or curling iron to style your hair extensions.
