How To Wear Your Jeans To Work
A Background To Denim Jeans
A Background To Denim Jeans
Denim jeans were originally designed as work wear so isn't it ironic that most work places are reluctant to let their employees wear jeans. It's important to understand the evolution of denim jeans in order to understand their reluctance.
Back in the day, jeans were worn by working class manual labourers as a way of preserving their other items of clothing. By the 1930s they were being seen in popular cowboy films of the time, adding to their popularity. Following a plateau during the war years, by the 1960s jeans were being worn by a totally new segment of the population. It was the younger generation that adopted jeans as their clothing item of choice a way of conveying their rebellious nature. By the 1970s throughout the next thirty years, jeans were a staple item in most wardrobes of any aged owner but they remained a casual item and were still not accepted in most work places.
However, in recent years, employers have begun to relax their rules on office wear slightly and jeans are beginning to be seen at work. With most employers still wanting to see their workers in smart clothing so the aim of this article is to show you how to carry off jeans as a smart office look.
Choosing Your Jeans
The most important part of the look is choosing the right pair of jeans in the first place. It's best to choose designer jeans as these are good quality with uniform stitching. A pair of dark dyed designer jeans such as indigo, black or navy are the best colours to choose to achieve a smart look. It's best to opt for a uniform colour so avoid heavily faded or distressed jeans as these will undermine the whole outfit.
Choosing Your Footwear
When trying to achieve a smart look with designer jeans, it's best to avoid relaxed styled footwear such as trainers and pumps. In order to smarten up your outfit, team jeans with black, brown or tan tailored shoes or boots. These will accentuate your smart designer jean look.
Choosing Your Top
Once you're selected your jeans and footwear, it's time to consider what top to wear. By teaming designer jeans with a plain short sleeve t-shirt in a vibrant colour, you will draw the attention away from the fact you are wearing jeans and smarten up your whole look. V neck t-shirts are much smarter than traditional round neck t-shirts.
An even smarter look can be achieved by teaming your designer jeans with a tailored shirt. Alternatively to add even more sophistication, wear a suit jacket with your designer jeans to make a real statement.
Choosing Your Accessories
When trying to smarten up your designer jeans look, keep accessories simple and classic. A basic belt in a contemporary colour with a regular sized buckle is a must. If wearing a watch, keep it neutral in colour and style. If wearing any other items of jewellery, keep those subtle and simple too.
So now you know how to achieve the smart office
jeans look, why not try it out at work.
