All you need on top of an already stressful project is a difficult home builder. If you have been unlucky enough to be stuck with one of these builders, you can use these tips to lessen your stress as much as possible:

Make sure that you talk with the home builder in a way that is clear and decisive. Even though some problems may have arisen and changes need to be made, you must make sure that you never raise your voice when speaking with them.

To avoid a conversation becoming too heated (even the builder is practically yelling his head off), ensure that you always speak in a calm and reasonable way. This way, he will not be getting the rise out of you he wants and will, hopefully, calm down, too.

Make sure that you always have a positive attitude when dealing with your home builder. Whilst it may be tempting to make comments regarding aspects of the construction, you should keep them to yourself if youre not an expert in the area.

Understand that you do need to be flexible at times. Occasionally, construction can take longer than expected because delays and problems do arise. A month or two extra isnt going to matter too much when you take into consideration that many homes take upwards of a year.

Make sure that you schedule a meeting with the home builder if you have concerns regarding the timetable of the project. During the discussion, it might be an idea to draw up a new timetable that takes any problems or delays into account.

If you are unhappy with the path that the home has taken or if the builder is making changes without your consent, make sure that you stop construction immediately until these issues are resolved. If you have to hire a new contractor, so be it.

Dealing with a difficult home builder is all about determining whether this is his regular personality or whether he is just having a bad day. If its the later, just deal with the problem another day when the builder appears to be in a better mood.
