How To Write A Bibliography
Every research paper needs a source list and that list of sources found at the end of the paper is called a Bibliography
. In general, writing a bibliography is not really that difficult, you just have to specify the sources you used in completing your research. That way, your reviewer or reader will have an idea where you got all your ideas.
Make sure that you keep track of every source you use by noting it down so that it will be easier for you to write a bibliography. Even without the formatting yet, you can make a draft on a piece of paper or document.
On how to write a bibliography, take note of the following:
Title of the work (book, chapter, article, journal title)
Author(s)
Page number(s)
Place of publication
Publisher
Date of publication
URL if its a web resource
Date accessed if its a website
This article will show you how to write a bibliography. Here are some guidelines that can help you write your bibliography:
Title
Make sure you include the full title, including the subtitle. For chapters or articles in a book, note down the title of the chapter and the article, as well as the title of the book or journal.
Author
Authors are usually listed by surnames so list them in the last name, first name format. Disregard any designations that come with the name (Ms., Mr., Dr., MD., Sir, etc). You should add the Jr., Sr., II, III if applicable. If there is no author, then dont include it.
Page Numbers
Page numbers are not needed when citing the whole book or when citing an electronic source. However, for journal articles and book chapters, you need to take note of its designated page numbers.
Place of Publication
Type in the city of publication. If the city is well known, no need to type in the state or province after it. The Place of Publication is used for books only.
Publisher
Used for books only. Make sure that you type in the publisher and not the printing company. There are common instances where the printing company and publisher are one and the same.
Date of Publication
For books, just type in the year. Use the most recent Copyright year.
For journals or quarterly published works, make sure you include the Month and the year of publication (Month, Year). For weekly or daily published works, make sure you include the complete date.
Dont confuse the publication date with the printing date. If you cannot find the publication date, use n.d.
URL
For electronic sources, the complete URL should be provided. If the URL is too long, you can separate through the /.
Date Accessed
For electronic sources, you should provide the date accessed. Information in the internet can be changed often and what is there today will not be there tomorrow, so make sure you include the date accessed for electronic sources in the list

The list above is just a bibliography example. Your bibliography can be longer or shorter if necessary. It all depends on the number of sources you used. In this way, you will get an idea on how to write a bibliography. Once you take not of the necessary points, it will be easy for you to start.
