How Useful Can Mobile Internet Actually Be?
Unless mobile internet is something that you distinctly require in a phone (such
as for business purposes), it's likely that it is low down on your list of features that your phone must have.
With many people looking primarily at aesthetics, usability, cost and then now standard features such as a camera, for some, internet access doesn't even feature on their list of requirements.
However, although it may not be something that you think you require, once you have access to the internet on the go, chances are you'll wonder what you ever did without it.
And if you still haven't sampled the delights of mobile internet and think you don't require it, it's worthwhile looking at just how useful it can be.
For instance, how often have you been in the centre of a large town or city and not been able to find out exactly where you are or where you're supposed to be going? Taking out a map or asking someone are both possibilities, but if you're in the middle of a busy city or in a rush, it can be difficult to do this.
If you have a mobile phone with internet access and a maps application, however, you can take out your phone and within a matter of minutes see exactly where you are located, where your destination is and be given directions on the quickest way to get to it.
It's also worthwhile understanding how beneficial it can be for businesses.
If you're the type of person who spends a lot of time out of the office, you'll be aware that when you get back to your office, the time is initially spent often wading through a substantial amount of e-mails.
With mobile internet, through, you can not only check your e-mails when you're out and about, but with the correct device, you'll be able to open attachments and amend documents, too.
And then there's the simple fact that you can keep in touch with people easier. From the ability to use Facebook and Twitter (both of which have features where you can take a photo with your phone and upload it instantly, no matter where you are) through to being able to e-mail irrelevant of your location or keep up-to-date with friends, families and colleagues by using applications such as FourSquare (an app that allows you to 'check in' at different locations and see who is also there or who has been there recently), mobile internet means you can keep in touch with everyone at all times.
In addition, a discussion about mobile internet can't go without mentioning mobile broadband. Giving you an extremely fast internet connection when on the move, mobile broadband will generally bring with it its own additional monthly fee, but if you need regular remote internet access, it could definitely be the way to go.
Both the internet and mobile phones have evolved substantially over the past 20 years. Effectively growing together, it was inevitable that their paths would cross eventually and although some people prefer to keep these two pieces of technology separate, their integration is arguably one of the best things that has happened to them both for the public and many businesses.
