How Well Do You Listen , Really Listen To Others ?

What is easiest for you? Words, gestures, emotions

,desires, thoughts, direct perception or intuition. How well do you communicate ? How easy is it for others to communicate with you ?

Often we are with others, interacting we are much more focused on our own needs instead of listening, truly listening to what the other person is trying to convey.

Anyone who is a parent knows only too well what it is like trying to talk with a child 3-4 years old, or any age. They nod say yes or whatever but you know they haven't heard a word. It's so frustrating.

As we get older we get better at pretending to have listened, we make a thoughtful face but all the while just bursting to get out what we want to say. And sadly we also get better at pretending that we have been listened to. Sometimes it just helps to get it out there, get it off our chest but it is so much better if we know that the other person has actually listened to us. If we are not heard that starts to push down the self esteem and self value.

We need to improve our communication skills by being open to the needs of the other person. When we do genuinely listen the filters that serve our own needs for security can be released thus allowing us to receive the message with our compassionate heart. And if we have listened completely then when we speak we choose the words that the listener can receive.

It's amazing when you become aware of listening to someone how quickly you realise that for so long that's not what you've been doing. All those conversations, all those words, in one ear and out the other. It's embarrassing and can make you feel bad.

Don't feel bad about it and beat yourself up, just make a point of becoming a much better listener from now on. Feeling guilty doesn't serve anyone.

Just get better at listening.
