How Will I Find Out If My Shipment Is Delayed?

A delay to a shipment that you're sending out with a courier company can be extremely tough for your company to deal with

. A delay in a shipment can mean a spiral of problems that start with your own production schedule and ends with the satisfaction (or not) of your customers. If a San Francisco courier service is doing their best to satisfying their customers, they are going to ensure that their clients know about any delay to a shipment as soon as possible, especially if that delay is projected to be significant.

If a courier company deems that a shipment is going to be delayed for a long time, they are going to let the customer know about it in a few different ways at once. The first thing they will do is update the online status system. That way, if the customer tries to check on the status of their shipment they will see that it is stuck in transit and know right away that there is a problem with their shipment. This is a useful thing to do, because it will take a great deal of time to contact everyone who has cargo on a large LTL load, for example, to let them know the shipment has been delayed. The online status system however can be updated for all the clients at a few clicks of the mouse.

Once this has been done, the courier company will judge if the delay is likely to continue for a long time. If they think that the delay is going to be long enough, they will start to contact the clients that have shipments involved on the vehicle which has been delayed directly by telephone. They may also send out emails, but a phone call is going to be the normal protocol in this situation.

Remember, that if you want to know about even the smallest little delays which affect your shipment, then you should check your online status system as often as you can. When you first ship with your courier company they will provide you with a tracking number. By entering this on their website you should be able to access the most up to the minute information about the status of your shipment. This will include information about the delays which are too small to warrant an actual phone call from the courier company, but which you may still be interested in.
