How Work At Home Can Answer A Priority Mismatch

Statistics indicate small businesses account for 97% of all jobs in the United States

. Congratulations. If you are someone who works at home you are part of a vast majority of foreword thinking entrepreneurs who demonstrate self-reliance everyday.

When individuals leave the corporate world we often hear about how life once again had purpose and they felt more in control of their environment and destiny. It's amazing that so many scramble to be one of the employees in that 3% category.

Some of the benefits of a small business are that it's not hard to remember everyone's name. Your business can feel more like a family than larger operations. There may be more flexible rules as to when and how you can take time off. Of course if you are the sole employee you can create your own rules.

Work at home business may have more to do with the desire to have control back than almost anything. Mothers may desire to take work home because that's where their family is. That's where they connect with friends and face it the commute is a breeze.

Men may want to return home because they long for a simpler time they may have known in the past. It's not uncommon to find work at home dads who pick up more earthy business ideas as a direct antithesis to the corporate world they left behind.

In the minds of some this means former co-workers have consigned themselves to a life of anonymity by embracing a work at home job, but often it simply means the friendships they know are deeper and more important than a title. There is a lack of pretense in relationships and there is a distinct feeling of authenticity to what they do.

Men and women have always enjoyed the ability to determine for themselves what they will do. Sometimes the corporate world makes it virtually impossible to make that determination without substantial input from supervisors who often care more for the bottom line than your desire to see your son pitch in a baseball game, or your daughter paint in pottery class.

There are 97% of Americans that choose where they work because it allows them greater flexibility in maintaining the nucleus of their family. Many have determined they are not interested in living with long-term regret by staying away from their children in order to raise enough capital to send them off to college.

In some cases it is a nurturing quality that draws women home, but there are also other scenarios that can make it a positive choice. For instance if a child or spouse has a recuperative illness it might make sense to stay home to help while maintaining the ability to earn income. It might also be possible a parent is in decline and needs attention from time to time. A work at home job can allow a woman or a man to factor elder care into their schedule much more conveniently than a traditional job.

Many work at home entrepreneurs don't think of themselves as heroes, but they often view this type of work as a way to make their schedule obedient to their priorities. For many there's no turning back - and they wouldn't want to even if they could.
