How Writers Can Get Paid For Staying Home
Lets say as a kid you read a lot of books and you loved writing assignments in school
. You joined the paper and secretly wrote dozens of short stories. Then in college you took creative writing and once again were on the school paper staff. You knew your whole life that you would become a writer mentioned in te same sentence with Hemingway, Christie or Tolkien. And then you graduated, spent two months on the first chapter of the book that would make you the latest literary discovery, and you realized that you have to pay bills and eat.
Getting a full time office job and trying to write a book at the same time is not a great sounding idea, especially when you consider that means eight hours in the office plus about two hours for commute. That leaves you with fourteen hours, which sounds like a lot of time, but you have to sleep sometimes, take care of the house, and yourself, you might even want to meet with your friends or family every now and then. All all those up and youre left with maybe tree, four hours of writing time.
Three to four hours is not bad, but since these fall in the evenings, what if youre tired, your neighbours are having a noisy gathering, or you simply stare at the blank page and nothing comes to your mind? If that happens, your four hours are over before you know it, and its morning again, time to get up and go to work. If youre lucky, working this way you might get to finish your book in say eight years. But who would want to wait that long?
If you cant afford taking time completely off to finish your book, but dont want to wait years before you can hold the first copy, you might want to consider a career at home. One of the great options for someone like you is becoming a writer for hire. Im not necessarily calling it ghost writing, because that would take up a lot of your time. However, offering your services to write blog posts, free PR articles, brochures and other short materials, gives you the opportunity to make money and have a lot of time for your own work, provided youre well organized.
The biggest benefit of working from home, besides making money of course, is that you can set your own schedule. If you get up in the morning wth a great idea for the next chapter of your novel, you can sit at the computer right away and type it up. If you feel more creative in the afternoon, you can get your assigned work out of the way in the morning and sit to your book later in the day. As long as you stick t your deadlines, nobody will care if you start at 7:00 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. And there is one more benefit, that is when you get your book going, youll be able to generate some interest before its even published by starting your own blog, posting some free PR news or having somebody else do it for you.
