. One such worldly trait that develops after being a member of a fraternal organization is leadership. Get on the route to leadership right while you are in college by becoming the leader of your own fraternity. Read on to know more.
As a member of a fraternal organization, you can learn the ropes of leadership right in college. When you are an active member of your Fraternity Chapter, you can take certain key steps to ensure that you rise fast within your chapter. Once you have great fraternity memberships and you manage to grab authoritative positions in them as well, it will look very great on your resume once you get out of college and make an entry into the job market. Here are some ideas to grab leadership opportunities in your fraternity:
Be Open About Your Aspirations: A leader is a peoples person. He is vocal and clear in his thought and relaying them to the people around him. In other words, if you want to be a leader of your chapter, share the thought with your pledge class, fellow brothers or friends and most importantly with your present leaders. In all probability you will be given a lot of hints and tips on putting forward your candidature in the best possible manner. In fact having such a discussion with present fraternity leaders can give you great guidance on what to include in your manifesto and what goals you should establish to achieve after being chosen.
Act Like a Leader: You have to show them what youve got. So take the forefront every time and command their attention by being punctual, eager and responsible. After you let the leaders know you are interested, they will keep an eye on you. So remember to be on time for chapter meetings and events and also make sure your classes and grades are in a respectable state. Your academics need to be a model for other members.
Start Taking Responsibilities: You have to get your hands dirty from the beginning. This means taking up smallest of jobs during a fraternal charity work or any other event organizing. Be the first to volunteer and be there for the main organizers every time to show you can be dedicated to the project and be fully supportive. Such a behavior will make the leaders confident of your ability and they will trust your leadership capacity.
Study the Chapter Hierarchy: Learn the number of authoritative positions in your Chapter and who all are managing it and most importantly get to know how they got that position. Want to be a treasurer? Talk to the present one and learn how he got there? This sort of research can also be conducted for other chapters and you have to find out the challenges these people faced and what are their biggest responsibilities. This will give you a clear idea of what to expect from the position and how you have to go about preparing yourself. Another thing you will know from this research is that if there are certain special requirements for a post, and whether you fulfill them or not.
Know Your Strengths: You know what you want, how you have to get it and also what skills do you have which can help you achieve your goal. Make a list of your skill set and think how you can use them to fit fraternity requirements.
