How You Can Get Rid Of Computer Viruses
The World Wide Web is growing each and every day
. As more Internet users go online, there are increasing numbers of hackers and scammers coming online as well, with the intent of causing harm to your computer. With the growing threat, many of us are becoming more aware and concerned about malware and viruses, and what we can do to get rid of them if they have infected our computers.
What is a Computer Virus Anyway?
A computer virus is a small program that finds its way onto your computer and does damage in some way. Some computer viruses do damage by replicating themselves over and over again, just as a biological virus might do in the human body. Think of the last time that you used the cut and paste commands on your computer. Viruses can do this thousands of times each second. After a while the virus may be taking up most of the space on your hard drive.
In addition to viruses, there are other types of malware such as trojans, keyloggers, and spyware, that can steal all kinds of private and sensitive information from your computer and send it back to a hacker.
So, How Do You Get Rid of Computer Viruses?
The easiest way is to use a free virus removal program. But, don't just hop on the Internet and search for one. You are very likely to find a program that is less than reputable and very likely to come with viruses of its own. Instead, purchase a trusted program like Bit Defender, Kaspersky, McAfee, or Norton antivirus software, or use a free antivirus such as AVG Free or Avast Free.
Prevent it From Happening Again
Of course, the best way to rid your computer of any virus is to avoid getting the virus in the first place. First, make sure you have an antivirus program installed that will automatically block and quarantine or delete viruses before they can infect your computer.
Additionally, if you are running on a Windows operating system then you need to make sure that your Windows firewall is turned on at all times. This will work along with your antivirus program to help prevent uninvited guests from sneaking onto your computer and installing viruses, spyware, trojans, or other types of malware.
Make sure that you're taking steps to protect yourself from computer viruses. As the old saying goes "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Use an antivirus and firewall to stop viruses at the door before they can enter your computer.
