How You Can Maintain A Healthy Environment In A Pond

. However, we should not be the only ones who are benefiting from our pets, we should also learn to take care of them especially their health.

The quality of the water in an aquarium or a pond determines the health of your fish. If the condition inside an aquarium or pond is not right, chances are that the fishes in there will get ill or possibly die.

Aquatic Plants - putting aquatic plants to your pond or aquarium greatly helps your fish in their breathing. Small aquatic plants are also known to be eaten by some fishes. Having a plant in your pond provides oxygen and food for them at the same time.

pH level - Water is measured by the level of acidity. The levels are from 0 - 14. If the water has a pH level of 7, then the water is neutral. If it is above 7, it is alkaline and below 7 is acidic. In ponds, the pH level of the water is not constant because they change from time to time because of the CO2, the filter performance and the KH.

Water - Fishes live in the water. Therefore, a clean and healthy water would mean that you would have healthy fishes. As a result, it is a must that you change your water regularly especially when algae start to form. Fishes can't breathe properly if the water is dirty.

Alkalinity - This is a term used when water is able to resist changes in pH level in the water. This is also known as KH buffering. Alkalinity is also used to measure the level of bicarbonate and carbonate ion concentration in the water. A good level of alkalinity level is 100 of 300 ppm, ppm stands for Parts Per Million. When your pond is on this level, then it should be able to provide great buffering and produce a much more stable pH.

If you choose to have an aquarium in your house, you should know the alkalinity of the water. An aquarium with a high level of pH will result in possible death of a fish. Yes, even little things like this will have a big effect on the health of your fishes. It is therefore important to take special care for your fish pond to ensure a healthy fish.
