How You Can Use Colour to Improve Your Life

When was the last time you actually noticed the vast array of colours around you

? Not just those in nature but the colour of your walls, the clothes you wear, the food you eat, even the items you own. Have you ever wondered how they affect your mood, thoughts, health, even the way others perceive you? It's not news to most people that colours do affect us. There's enough sayings that spell that out for us: "green with envy", "feeling blue" and "seeing red" are just some. These didn't come from nowhere, colours really do affect our mood and energy levels.

We need different colours at different stages of our lives and even every day. Our body knows what colour we need if we listen to it enough to notice. Have you ever been to your wardrobe and found that, even though its full of clothes, there's nothing to wear? That's because you don't have the colour you need at that time.

As a general rule, one colour will not work in every room of your house. This is because each colour gives off a different energy and this affects the atmosphere of the room; bright, vibrant colours work better in the living room then in the bedroom, where as pastel, more tranquil colours are more likely to work in the bedroom, blues and greens are often in the bathroom.

It is this effect colour has on us that makes it a very effective healer, not just for emotional problems but also for physical. By using the colours around us, by changing the colours we wear, the dcor in our house, even the colours of the food we eat we are able to bring a new kind of tranquility, harmony and happiness to our lives.


This is how art/colour therapy works, we often find it hard to express our emotions through words it is much easier to draw and colour and express ourselves through our creativity. A good therapist is able to notice the subtleties you may not even be aware of. Not necessarily what you draw but how you draw it, the colours you choose even the colours you avoid all say something about how you're feeling and what you need to help you to heal.
