The media today is seen to be a force of influence not only directly but indirectly as well. Compared to the past, the media can easily be accessed today and is available for whosoever may want to make use of it. Media exists in the form of the internet, the radio, television, music, printer materials etc. But this raises a question which certainly needs to be answered; is the media a bad thing? How can it be controlled to stop its negative effects from spreading? And where exactly does it all begin with? In the modern world today, these are question which many parents have raised and would like answers to as they are finding it hard to raise their children in an environment where the media is allowed so much freedom.

Despite most of the media being shallow and lacking meaning and only showing violence, it is a source of humor, entertainment and a way for us to learn something. All individuals wanting to promote things have made use of various aspects of the media in some way or the other. The media has been used to tell people what they should wear, what they should eat, how they should behave and what they should do. It has also gone to the extent of telling people what they should believe in. It is true that the media certainly plays a powerful role in society today.

The media is probably the only way we get to know what is going on in the other parts of the globe and it is through the media that we are told how to perceive a certain situation. Needless to say that even the children of society are affected by the media. It is however depending on the age of the child and the stage of development he/she is at that the media will have varying effects (Barbour, Scully).
