Hobbies are a wonderful means of educating and learning. It makes for a constructive past time and can take a child a long way if it is pursued as a career. At least, if nothing else, it's so much better to watch a child sticking stamps or collecting coins than wasting precious time watching TV and playing video games, which most children in their age group would resort to. The first signs of your child having something on mind are that you will notice your child will be troubling you less. It could be because of the child's new found hobby. As a parent, you must observe how your child reacts to things around you and expose your child to outdoor activities and indoor and you will soon notice something that your child talks about the most or wants to watch the most. Hobbies could be anything from collecting stamps to match boxes to ice cream sticks or the golden chocolate wraps. If you observe a child consistent with a particular activity, it is time to encourage your child to continue with it, because it may develop into a hobby. Sometimes children get attracted to some very expensive hobbies that parents train them to handle: for instance, parents who are professional photographers themselves may train their kids onto handling an expensive camera. This a child may convert into taking up film making as a career from what became photography as a hobby. There are some hobbies that children grasp by watching animal shows on National Geographic and try to attempt the same. This you can make out by the number of hours they spend outdoor digging worms or collecting leaves or pressing flower petals in their books. Whatever be the hobby, you must see that it is consistent and not very dangerous like searching for snakes in the backyard or your garden. You must clearly explain to your child the difference between professionally trained animal lovers who host a T.V show and your child's new found interest. Sometimes peer pressure can be a cause for your child to develop an interest for example spraying colored graffiti on the walls or designing cars, the child must be taught that a hobby is something that is socially acceptable and not something that turns them into a social menace. Choosing a healthy hobbywill make your child a more responsible and aware person in life.
