How "to Lose Is To Win" In The World Of Internet Marketing

There are numerous tips and tricks available for new internet marketers to take action on

, but let's look at an unusual but extremely useful way for a newbie can succeed online today.

One thing that proves to be more useful than anything else for a new Internet marketer is... wait for it...

... FAILURE!!!

Yes, Internet marketing "failure" is good for you!

It may sound paradoxical, but when you experience failure you can learn a lot about how to succeed provided, of course, you don't give up. Failure can actually lead to future success. Of course, no one wants to fail, but instant success can be problematic, and here's why.

If, after a successful start, your online business suddenly starts to nosedive, you probably won't know how to respond. Immediate success does not train you to respond to bad news.

However, if you fail from the start, you'll have learned how to adapt to the always changing internet world and will be able to quickly adjust. Learning from past mistakes is way more effective than reading a 100 page book about how to be successful. By making a mistake, you'll be able to identify what caused your problems and take actions to avoid similar situations in the future.

By having failed at least once in the past, it also makes you consider your options more extensively. Maintaining a healthy scepticism of the "latest thing" in Internet marketing is a very good thing; in fact, it rarely is. However, if you instantly succeed, you will likely try new tactics and programs without looking at what affect they'll have on your bottom line or if they'll even help your business in any way.

Over the years internet marketing has created an aura of "instant success" which has lead to new internet marketers coming into their business with a huge ego. You will find that failure is a good way to check your ego and to make you take a more realistic look at the situation, both at the challenges and the opportunities.

After you have studied your strong and weak points you will be better able to focus on your strengths and outsource the things you find difficult or uninspiring to do yourself. If you are honest with yourself about your weak points you will be in a better position to anticipate dangers and respond to unexpected events.

Another thing to bear in mind is that honest ambition is better than self-deluding egoism. Once you have failed, your ambition will take over, and you will still be able to succeed. Ambition is a constant motivator, but ego will only motivate you as long as you are succeeding. Ego will also prevent you from making necessary changes to your business because you think "it will all work out this time, because it did the first time."

In a competitive environment that is always changing, what worked the first time will not always work the next time.

Being able to humble yourself will allow you to be open to advice and make it easier to work well with others. Instant success makes it much more likely that you'll ignore the criticism and advice that you're given from people who have passed through the inevitable failures and achieved success. Not heeding this advice could prove disastrous in the long-run for your business.

Lastly, by failing initially, you'll be able to decide whether or not you really want to be an internet marketer. With all of the glory comes all of the defeats.

The sooner you learn this, the better.

There's nothing worse than succeeding right away, planning the rest of your life around internet marketing, only to fail a few years later and give up. The old adage is true, "the higher you go, the farther you fall." If you don't learn how to fall and get back up, Internet marketing will never be a long-term business solution for you. So, don't let this happen to you and your business.

Don't let failure get you down. I am reminded of something Samuel Beckett wrote:

"Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better."

Internet marketing "failure" does not need to be as bleak as that, because failure can turn out to be the best thing that you can do in the beginning stages.

When your new online business fails to make any money for you, use the experience as an opportunity to learn from mistakes and build a sounder business plan for the future.
