How the Aquasana AQ-4500 Differs From Other Under Sink Water Filters
How the Aquasana AQ-4500 Differs From Other Under Sink Water Filters
One of the main reasons for it's dominant success is that it utilizes a patented process that features two cartridges. Unlike competing sink filter products, it has more filter media and is made of extremely high quality materials.
Awards
First of all, it only makes sense to start with industry awards. Aquasana's AQ-4500 under sink water filter uses the same system that led to the Aquasana Water Filter winning Health Magazine's "Healthiest Product" award for 2010. Prior to that, it won the Consumers Digest Magazine's "Best Buy" award for 6 consecutive years from 2003 to2008.
Performance
Phase 1
The system works by having water flow through two cartridges, each with its own unique filtration technology. Cartridge A reduces larger microscopic particles including sediment. This first filter process is critical to the removal of over 99% of chlorine. Chlorine is a very concentrated chemical and has been linked to various forms of cancer. The A cartridge is responsible for improving taste and significantly reducing odor.
Phase 2
After water passes through the first phase, it goes to the B cartridge. Here, lead is reduced through an ion exchange process. Lead ions are exchanged with potassium ions. Also, potassium is a mineral that helps water maintain a neutral and healthy pH. So like the A cartridge, it improves taste. This second phase also filters dangerous synthetic chemicals like pesticides, herbicides and industrial solvents. Its 0.5 micron filtration technology also takes out cysts.
Certifications and Standards
The AQ-4500 by Aquasana is mounted under the sink. You get the water by pushing a lever on a chrome faucet that is installed next to your main faucet. When looking into purchasing a sink water filter, make sure you check out what standards it meets. This unit is third-party tested and certified by the highly respected Underwriter's Laboratories (UL) as well as the California Department of Public Health for standards 42 and 53.
Cost
Based on the standards above, the AQ-4500 gives you a gallon of water for about 10 cents. Compared to bottled water that can easily be near $8 if you bought a gallon, it's an astonishing savings. Also, you don't know exactly what quality water you are getting with bottled water. Many studies have shown that bottled water is really just tap water. Then there is the leading water filter pitcher that costs about 20 cents a gallon. Considering the much smaller amount of filter media used and the inferior performance, it also doesn't compare favorably with Aquasana's under counter system.
So if you are looking into purchasing an under sink water filter, remember to check these four items. The industry awards it has won; how well it performs at removing contaminants; what certifications it has; and the cost. This should help you find the right water filter and leave no room for doubt.
