How to Attach a Trampoline Spring – Do It Yourself Repairs

In these days of high tech toys and video game consoles

, it's good to know that some simple activities will always be fun and healthy, simply because they make us get up out of our chairs for some physical exertion and laughter. The trampoline might seem like a simple machine, after all it's just a piece of stretchy fabric strung between a metal frames by a series of metal springs. But when you climb onto a trampoline, you're instantly transported to a land of exercise and virtual weightlessness, just by bending your knees and jumping up. Trampolines that get a lot of love (a.k.a. daily use) are likely to need repairs at some point during their lifespan

It's important for trampolines to get inspected before every use, regardless of whether you use it for exercise once a week or the entire neighborhood of kids is using it after school every day of the week. Although there aren't very many trampoline parts to worry about, the ones that are part of the design are very important, and if they become worn or damaged without your knowledge, just one errant jump could be a recipe for disaster.

The trampoline parts that are most likely to wear out within the first couple of years of use are the trampoline springs. These are heavy duty coils made from galvanized steel, but after repeatedly stretching them to their limit, they can get bent out of shape and loose. If you're storing your full sized trampoline outside in the yard, and you forget to cover it up during a few good rain showers, it's also likely that the springs could start to rust, which leaves them open to unexpected breaking that could be a serious health hazard.

If you find that some of your trampoline springs need to be replaced, it's a good idea to know how to complete this simple repair yourself to save some money, and protect your investment in the trampoline. If more than a few springs are in need of replacement, it might be a good idea to detach the whole trampoline mat and start from scratch. If you only need to replace a single coil, start by removing the old spring and inspecting the hook where it was connected. If there's no damage, simply place the spring, with the hook side facing down, into one of the v-rings of the trampoline mat. Then, place the other spring hook into the corresponding hole in the metal frame.
