Bachelor's degree programs will include courses in biology, food science, nutrition and physiology. Important supplementary courses for this career include business, computer science, psychology and math courses such as statistics. A master's degree may also be necessary if you want to go into the management side of things or enter a more specialized subset of the career such as cardiovascular, diabetic or pediatric nutrition.

Some states require certification to become a nutritionist, which involves an internship and the passage of an exam. After getting your license, if your state requires it, then you can begin looking for work. The pay for nutritionists ranges from $30,000 to $45,000 depending on experience, location, specialization and level of education, but there is room for advancement and many rewards that come with this career.
