How to Build Links by Blog Commenting
I decided to put this article together for a couple of reasons
. The first is because there are so many people out there that ask me for a reciprocal link on one of my websites. The other is that there are so many people that are trying to take the easy way out of building links that I just had to say something. I am sure this article will not reduce the amount of lazy link builders out there, but I can at least say to myself that I did make a good effort to helping others out.
Why do this?
In case you have not noticed it can be difficult or darn frustrating to build good quality and relevant links to your website. Oh sure you can buy traffic or banner impressions on horrible websites and maybe ride a small wave of traffic for a very short while, but that practice can also get you banned. Google and the other search engines have made it very clear that if you build back links to your site on other sites that are related to yours, you will improve your rankings. Guess what? It takes some work. So if your lazy and do not do your optimization for the long run, then you may want to blow this article off and go read something else.
My technique
This is what I do with all my websites and I am going to show you. This can be time consuming, but think of yourself as a craftsman. Old school craftsman use to build a house slowly, taking quality into consideration. You want to do the same thing, resist the urge to just throw it together OK?
Step 1 The first thing I want to make sure I have is a keyword list. You should know what keywords you are trying to rank for, if you don't, go out and read about keywords. I keep a detailed list off all my sites keywords and take one at a time. I set aside some time in the morning (like an hour) when I am fresh. After that I do something else to move my business along.
Step 2 Find the blogs that are relevant to your keyword. Go to Google and type this string in: site:.com in URL: blog "post a comment" -"comments closed" -"you must be logged in" "add your keyword here" Make sure you pay attention to the spaces and quotations. You put your keyword in the space provided. This will bring up the list of blogs that are directly relevant to your keyword and also show you ones that will accept a comment.
Step 3 Pick one of the sites and note the topic. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and make sure it will accept a comment. You know it will when it has a comment box that includes boxes for your Name, email address, URL and then the comment box. If this is not present, don't waste your time, go back to the search page.
Step 4 Put this firmly in your head. All of these boxes are important, you have to fill them out to get the most bang for your link buck. In the box where it says name, do not just put your name. Put something like "Bob the link building guy" In this example I am using the keyword "link building" as part of my name. Put in your email address and the URL of the page you want to be linked too. When you are done making your comment the blog software turns your name into a hyperlink to the URL that you supplied. Because you included a keyword, you made a keyword anchor text link, which is the name of the game. Got it?
Step 5 When you leave a comment make it something that is valuable. If you contribute a bunch of nonsense, guess what happens to your comment? It gets trashed and you will have wasted your time. Take a few moments and be a contributor, don't try to be a salesman, be a giver. Everyone loves a giver. (which is why you are reading this) Add value and you will be rewarded.
Step 6 Remember the fact that most comments have to be moderated, so someone will most likely look at it to determine if it is spam. Your comments may get trashed accidentally since it contains a URL, don't get your feelings hurt. Spam is a huge time waster to filter. Once you are approved, you will not have to wait to be approved again. So if your comment makes it up you can keep commenting on future posts which is more links.
Step 7 Don't rush off for the next one just yet, have a look around. Is there a Facebook posting tool, or a twitter retweet button? Use them, the love will eventually come back around. I like to bookmark sites I comment on. The reason I do it is if my comment gets approved I want more sites and people to see it, notice it or to click on my link. I bookmark freely and you will eventually build some relationships down the road.
Step 8 Rinse and repeat as much as you can every day. I will say this again because its worth repeating, garbage in, garbage out. Build authority and people will buy whatever it is you're selling.
Step 9 Don't expect immediate results. I always have the attitude that what I do
