How to Choose an Agent Who's Right for You - When Buying A Home

If you're going to work with a realtor, or real estate agent, it's imperative that you find someone who's right for you... someone who has your best interests in mind. In fact, if you don't choose the right agent, it could cost you potentially thousands of dollars at the end of it all. That said, exactly HOW are you going to find the right one for you?

Your Real Estate Agent should be working for YOU. Therefore, it's essential that, much like you'd interview a prospective employee, you interview several different real estate agents. You need to make sure that you're comfortable with the agent and that your best interests, as far as you can tell, will be a priority for them. Among the questions you should ask the agents, you will want to consider these:

How long have you been in the real estate business?

What are your qualifications?

How do you intend to look for my home?

What separates you from other real estate agents?

Will you allow me to review copies of documents I will sign ahead of time?

What professionals like mortgage brokers do you refer your clients to and why?

Can you provide me with references?

How do you get your business?

No doubt you'll want to find an agent who will be honest and trustworthy. Someone who you can be confident will have good communication skills with you throughout the process (not someone you have to spend your energy trying to get a hold of never being able to reach him/her). And of course he/she should definitely be good at negotiating.

After all is said and done, you will be happy you took the time to interview agents to find the right one for you.

If this is a little too much for you or sounds a bit too overwhelming, you're more than welcome to contact us. If you provide us with the area you'll need a real estate agent in, we'll be more than willing to make these crucial calls on your behalf and it won't even cost you a thing. It's our line of business. When the right agent is found, that agent will pay us a referral fee at the time of close for our referring you to them.
