How to Co-Create Anything You Want in Life
How to Co-Create Anything You Want in Life
Emotions, like animated language, speak to us. In my case, it was boredom feebly attempting to communicate with me in a faint whisper, as if it had a little voice.
I had been employed in the aviation industry for a quarter of a century, but after having made numerous contributions through my talents and abilities, with their paralleling promotions, I had felt that I had reached a plateauas if I had no longer been able to continue growing and developing by means of them. Faced with trepidation at the sheer thought of leaving what I had intimately come to know, I, like most people, became deaf to that little inner voice, continuing to put one foot in front of the other every day, robotically-propelled and unchallenged.
But circumstances seemed to fulfill prophecy: after a year, my company was acquired by another and, despite a six-month bridge between the two, during which time I was retained for familiarization and transition purposes, this interval proved both fleeting and finite. That little voice alerting of a career change in order to eradicate the boredom somehow got its way, except that I was now at its mercy, unwillfully tossed into a world whose economy was in the trenches. Why had I not listened to it earlier, when healthy conditions would have produced different results? Now I had no choice.
Adamant, I refused to gravitate to "mother"that is, the industry I knew so well that I could have performed a similar job in my sleep. With university-level certificates in teaching and writing, a strong calling to both, and armed with friend-doled sayings such as "God frees your hands of one thing to enable them to grasp another," I vowed to reinvent myself, walking a new path. Life is not just about a paycheck, I told myself; it is about personal growth and development, as long as you have a body in which to experience them.
Regrettably, and inevitably, the economy proved the enemy.
My approach, at least initially, was hardly novel: I filled out applications, followed leads, generated emails, and braved interview spotlights.
Attitudes maintained while working have a way of reversing themselves when you are not, and as the days dripped into months, so, too, did my principles. I was either overqualified, under-qualified, or the personnel department was so inundated with resumes that it never even read mine. So disgusted had I become that I threw up my hands one day and audibly proclaimed, "I've had it with this! I don't want to play this game any more!"
Traditional strategies exited. Nontraditional ones enteredin the form of prayer. I prayed for direction and a threshold back into the world by means of my talents. I prayed every day and, when nothing happened, I prayed twice a day, sinking lower into the depths of despair. (This measure, I am embarrassed to say, is a larger statement that you can imagine. If you really knew me, you would recheck the author's name printed on this article at least twice to confirm that it was I who was making such a claim.)
After a significant interval, it became apparent that this modified strategy had equally failed and now, devoid of any recourse, I looked up to God's exalted position one evening and vented, "I don't understand! I didn't pray and I got nothing. Now I'm praying and I still get nothing. What else do you want me to do?"
Remarkably, He responded. "That's because you pray for what you want," He succinctly stated.
Frustrated, confused, and enraged, I yelled, "What do you meanit's because it's what I want? What am I supposed to dopray for what I don't want? This makes no sense!"
Surprisingly, He answered me one further time that evening, only increasing my miscomprehension. "You don't understand how this works," He informed me. His image then faded out.
Now what would I do, I had wondered? Perhaps it was punishment for only turning to Him in times of desperation, when I needed something so badly that I could not envision any other way of getting it.
I have intermittently learned that God is everywhere, since there is no physical world concept or comparative of "where" in eternity, and that He can communicate with us in countless ways: through sound, by a message spoken in nature, by the comment the person makes at the table next to yours in a restaurant, even by a whisper. Could my own whisper have been He?
Intensely involved with research and writing, I made an almost-daily trip to my local library in whose entryway a three-shelf case served as an inter-patron exchange of old, no-longer needed books, and the following day, as if His finger pointed directly to one on it, a work entitled, Conversations with God: An Uncommon Dialogue, appeared. If the silence could have spoken, it would have said, "This is your answer."
I promptly snatched it, as if it exerted an irresistible draw on me. I could have sworn that it already sported my fingerprints before I had even touched it. And, at home, I devoured it, like a person at a buffet who had not eaten for a week. Of divine matters, I had not "eaten" for years.
Written by a person who had reached the same bottomless pit as I had and who had allegedly spoken to God, it detailed parallels of uncanny similarity.
God briefly appeared above me that evening in the form of brilliant light and predicted, "Now you will learn how prayer works and then tell others."
And learn I indeed didor, in some cases, relearn what I had always intrinsically known on the soul levelnamely, that we are all made in God's image, of the same life force, and since the properties are identical, we are able to do anything He can in a mutual, co-creating act, at once adding new meaning to the statement, "With God anything is possible. Without Him, nothing is." Our communications and thoughts, like radiating energy, project into the eternal whole above us and it always returns exactly what we project, whether we wish it or not. If we want, for example, it only responds with continued wanting.
The remedy is to fully realize that we are created by, connected to, and an extension of, the divine source, and anything we manifest through Him, we can create through Him, by affirming its delivery, as if it has already appeared, passing the idealized situation, as a visual image, from the core of our souls, to Him, in ultimate confirmation that He is the Creator of and for all. Even an iota of doubt will nullify this process. That doubt represents a severed communion with Him, thus weakening the "partnership."
I manifested a new, teaching- and writing-associated career, as if I had already been hired, and even planned the lunch I would bring on the first day.
The planets aligned. The correct circumstances were created. I was led to the right people. And I am elated to say that a teaching position became available for me, as well as a writing project, all using my much-desired aviation experience as their core of commonality.
God's message, which began as a whisper, grew ever-louder: there is another way, it had said, a way which employs remembering that we are, first and foremost, souls with a brief physical existence and, in the process, reconnecting with that eternal whole from which we came. But few, if any, reacquaint themselves with this fact and even fewer listen to their little voices until they have sunk into the depths of despair, devoid of alternative strategies, propelled by pain. In retrospect, God had ceased speaking to me until these final-stage desperations had forced my compliance.
There is just one thing I cannot reconcile. He had predicted that after I had learned the necessary lessons, that I would tell others about them. Honestly, though, I suffered in silence, riding the increasingly cresting waves like a lone survivor in a proverbial lifeboat, awaiting a miraculous lifeline. But, wait, am I not fulfilling that second prediction right now as you read this?
The next time a little voice attempts to speak to you, I strongly recommend that you listen to it. Trust me, it has a big origins.
