How to Connect Two or More Computers with One Monitor

?

Do you want to use just one monitor attached to multiple computers and looking for a solution? If so, your search ends here. You can definitely attach multiple computers with one monitor but to do that you need to purchase a piece of hardware called the KVM (Keyboard, Video Visual Display Unit, Mouse) switch. This switch looks like a HUB or maybe a wireless router. The difference is that instead of network ports it contains PS2 ports and VGA ports. Not only this you will have the added advantage of just using one keyboard and one mouse for all the computers attached to the KVM switch and not get confused about which keyboard and which mouse attached to which computer and so on.

KVM switches are usually used in large data centre where there are multiple servers but want to minimize number of monitors that may be attached to the servers. But nowadays when people purchase more than one computer and want to minimize the number of monitors attached to those computers they purchase KVM switches. There is another type of KVM switch where multiple monitors can be connected to a single computer.

KVM switches may contain either PS2 port or USB port for accessing Keyboard and mouse. Though DVI port and HDMI port are in use KVM switches prefer VGA port for attaching monitors. A maximum of 64 computers can be attached to one monitor using a KVM switch. Now the question that might creep up is how to shift from one computer to the other. This is not a great problem as there is a switch for doing the same. If you are not familiar you may refer the manual or talk to a PC repair company for computer tech support. Also some KVM allows you to switch from one computer to another using a keystroke using your keyboard. It's worthy to mention here that KVM switches work irrespective of operating system or platform. Some KVM switches also do not require any external power source. An indicator or a LED display will indicate number of computers it is attached to.

It is not a problem if the computers are located near the switch but incase the computers are located far off you can use KVM over IP. Hence computers or servers which are located in distant locations can be controlled using a KVM over IP using Local Area Network or Wide Area Network or using a phone line. The above option requires CAT 5 cable for getting connected.

So if you are planning to purchase one or already purchased a KVM switch and little worried to setup the same you can call up any online technician who will take care of the issue.
