The Biggest Discount You Can Get on Ink is to Use ALL of Your Existing Ink!
No matter which printer you choose, about half the ink you pay for goes unused. That's because when the printer tells you you're out of ink, you're NOT!In fact you sometimes have as much as 60% left.

When I get an Ink Alert that says I'm out or low I just keep printing until the won't come out out or it bubbles out when I blow on the cartridge top. This method usually allows me to print for another month before replacing it. I'll explain this technique in more detail later on.
On average, inkjet printers provide an ink efficiency of just over half when used for photo printing purposes and only one third percent when used for printing business documents.
Now all printer companies claim they're doing this for us, because once the ink falls below the halfway point, the prints could become 'unacceptable'. Their excuse is that they price ink cartridges based not on the volume of ink but on how many pages they print. (which is very difficult, if not impossible to get)
Epson cartridges use a chip that records the amount of ink used from the cartridge and then alerts you when the ink level reaches a certain point. This will ultimately prevent you from printing until you replace the cartridge.
The older Canon ink tanks use a laser to check on ink levels; and don't have smart chips that prevent printing. So you can print for about two more weeks after your out of ink.

1) In your printer utility
2) Turn off color correction by selecting the manual color setting
3) Reduce the intensity
4) Reduce the individual color settings
