How to Get More Traffic to Your Website - Two Free Methods and Their Advantages and Disadvantages

Are you trying to get more targeted traffic to your website? There are lots of options, some paid, some free. Read on about two free options that can work very well.

The two methods I'm going to cover in this article are article marketing and forum marketing. Both of them are usually free, and both of them take quite a bit of work, unless you plan to outsource your articles and/or forum posts.

1) Article Marketing

Article marketing works well, but it also requires quite a bit of know-how as well as effort if you want it to actually pay off. You need to write the articles in a way that attracts readers and makes them read all the way to the end.

And then, you need to have a compelling resource box that makes your readers click through to your offer.

The advantage of article marketing is that it's not only inexpensive or free, but that your well-written articles will be around for a long time to come and can continue to drive traffic to your website.

The disadvantage of article marketing is that it has gotten much more competitive recently, and so you'll need to write a lot of articles to get the kind of results that you might be hoping for. That can take a lot of time -- and effort.

2) Forum Marketing

Forum marketing is somewhat related to article marketing in that it requires you to do some writing and get your expertise out there. Again, it requires sweat equity.

Most forums allow you a signature box, which function somewhat like your resource box in article marketing. As in article marketing, your signature box is most effective if the offer it advertises relates closely to your forum posts and the advice you give.

The advantage to forum marketing is that your signature file is attached to all of your posts, so the more posts you have, the more people will see you signature with your offer.

The disadvantage is that it can be quite time-consuming, and that most posts get outdated quickly, and few people will look at them once they drop off the front pages.

Why it's good news that these methods are labor intensive and require some skill

Both article marketing and forum marketing take a lot of work as well as a certain amount of expertise. And I feel that this is good news. Why? Because if it were less labor intensive and didn't require some know-how, it would be even more competitive. As it is, you always have a chance to get your articles to rise to the top.
